Seriously, it’s worth buying a ticket. Not only is it pivotal to the whole Marvel movie universe, but it’s a hell of an action shitkicker and political thriller on its own. I would probably call it the strongest stand-alone Marvel movie to date, as well as one of the best comic book movies ever. Rather than making a major villain look like a joke, they took a relatively obscure one and made him terrifying. The real-world implications of the plot theme are pretty damn scary, too. The film does a fantastic job of bringing Cap’s WWII story arcs and conflicts into the modern worlds (both “real” and Marvel.) The action scenes are intense and frequent, which is sadly not the case for too many of these movies. I honestly did not think they would ever be able to make a Captain America movie this good, especially not without a team of Avengers to lead. I’m a legendary malcontent, and I really can’t think of anything significant to complain about.
If you don’t watch this movie, you are a Goddamned terrorist.
