Some initial thoughts on Fallout 4
So, I’m about six hours in. I’m in no hurry to rush the storyline, so I’m exploring and working on building up Sanctuary. Here are some things I’ve noticed:
•The graphics are pretty great, but there’s still no reflections. In the beginning, Codsworth is super shiny and looks *almost* like real metal… but there is no reflection of the character. Same for mirrors. Come on. We’ve got this technology now.
•Playing first person, I still don’t have a body. I have hands, and that’s great, but if you look down at your feet, no legs, no feet, no belly. Nothing. Why is this still an issue?
•I don’t know how I feel about the skills having been replaced totally by perks. I liked having both. It seems like they’re trying to streamline, but as someone who’s gotten used to it working that way, it’s a little harder to know how to make sure everything’s set where I want it.
•Why is it so hard to make electricity work in my town? Is it just me?
•Too many weapon choices. It’s not healthy. I really just want a Terrible Shotgun and a sniper rifle. I do like the fact that a 10 mm is actually a decent firearm. Most games give you one early on because it’s craptastic, when in real life, that’s not the case.
•Uncanny valley- just like Dragon Age: Inquisition, the characters look great… until they start speaking. Then it’s kind of terrifying. I’ll wear a mask the entire game so that I don’t have to see my character’s mouth move in cut scenes.
•I was able to make a character that looks like Rhianna after a date with Chris Brown… but I can’t wear a mohawk? I CAN’T WEAR A FUCKING MOHAWK IN FALLOUT?
